Bobby's Lightmare
A downloadable game for Windows
It’s 12pm and you can’t get to sleep, *Tap, Tap, Tap* scratches against your window invite dangerous thoughts. It could simply be a branch brushing up along it, then again you don’t remember hearing them any night before. *bzzz* The hum of your lamp does well to ease your fear, but that flickering…. it unsettles you *shatter* ….. Your last light just broke, plunging you into pure darkness and inviting the unknown with it. *crunch* *pat, pat, pat* They’re coming from inside now, what terrors are lurking in the dark? What could be coming for you?
Bobby’s Lightmare is a 3D Isometric game built in Unreal Engine, you play as a small child trying to keep their fear of the dark from overwhelming them. You use left mouse clicks to both move your character and interact with the objects in your room. Keep the lights on to keep your fear at bay, when they start to flicker hurry over to them and turn them off and on, otherwise the bulbs could explode. Your windows are a good source of moonlight, but they’re also an invitation for anything lurking in the dark to enter your room. Make sure to close them when the creatures start making their way in lest you be overwhelmed by fear. Survive until 6am without succumbing to your fear and you may just live another day.
This game was made for the July Game Jam hosted by AIE.

Artistically, the visual style of the game looks amazing! I love the pixelated aesthetic and the filter over everything. Menus and audio are super polished as well.
Gameplay-wise, I was very confused as to what I was supposed to be doing, and even once I had read the game page description I still found it very difficult. It felt like my fear meter only ever went up and never went down, even with all the lights on! Also considering 1hr ingame = 1min realtime, 6 minutes is WAY too long of a game duration, I was never able to reach the end. But the multitasking aspect did feel challenging at times, which was good.
Ideally to make it more interesting, the different lights around the house could had required different inputs or actions, rather than just clicking on things.
Overall, a really well-polished and complete looking experience, given the 2 day time period!
